Therapy at STEPS is a structured, goal-oriented process that helps children, young adults, and families build resilience and move forward. Our therapists bring expertise across multiple approaches and tailor each journey to the unique needs of the client.
What therapy includes
Therapy is recommended for a range of diagnosed or emerging concerns from ADHD, OCD, anxiety, and depression to trauma, giftedness, and major life transitions like divorce, adoption, or bereavement. We also offer Parent Therapy to support caregivers directly.
A mix of our therapeutic approaches:
- Psychodynamic Therapy
- Narrative Therapy
- Humanistic Therapy
- Expressive Arts-Based Therapy
Who it is for
Therapy can help at every stage of life:
- Children under 6: Sessions are parent-led, blending family education and coaching.
- Children from 6 – 12 years: In-person sessions are preferred, often with parent participation.
- Adolescents and young adults: Sessions can be in-person or online.
- Parents and families: To navigate behavioural challenges, neurodivergence, or life transitions.
How Therapy Works At STEPS
The therapy journey begins with clearly defined goals, aligned with psychiatric treatment if needed. Sessions are usually weekly, 50 minutes each. Therapists are assigned thoughtfully, based on the client’s needs and context, to ensure the right fit. Therapy may focus on:
Building acceptance and awareness of symptoms
Identifying difficulties the client wants to move away from
Developing strategies to protect relationships with friends, parents, or partners
What Makes Therapy At STEPS Distinctive
Integrated care
Therapy is closely linked with psychiatric care, allowing for faster progress and reduced long-term dependency.
Goal-driven
Our focus is on improving real-world functioning whether it's academic, social, developmental, or relational.
Parent and ecosystem empowerment
We equip caregivers and other critical figures in a child’s life to actively support progress.
Strengths-based approach
We help clients uncover and build on their unique strengths with addressing their struggles.
